Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy (ABA)
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy is endorsed by the US Surgeon General and other medical associations as the leading approach for understanding, and supporting the development of new skills in, children with autism spectrum disorder. ABA Therapy aims to improve functional communication, social interactions, pre-academic and school readiness skills, transitions or unexpected changes to routines, emotional regulation, and self-care skills (grooming, toileting, personal hygiene), while reducing behaviors that interfere with learning or cause harm.
ABA therapy is offered for 20 or 40 hours per week. Sessions run from 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM, 12:30 PM – 4:30 PM, or 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM. Occupational, physical, and speech therapy sessions will occur during your child’s ABA day if they are coming full-time or before / after ABA if they are coming part-time.
Parents will receive daily updates (notes, pictures, and videos) and home programming through our HIPAA compliant practice management portal. Parent meetings, for collaboration and training, occur at least once a month.
For ABA services, your child must have an Autism diagnosis from a Qualified Medical Professional (QMP). This includes a Health Service Provider in Psychology (HSPP), Pediatrician, or Psychiatrist.
Occupational Therapy (OT): Only Offered for Current ABA Clients
Occupations are things that occupy your time. Play and leisure, activities of daily living, education, sleep and rest, and social participation are all occupations. Occupational Therapists work with children and their families to develop skills that allow children to complete these occupations within their homes, at school, and in community environments.
Occupational Therapy may focus on gross and fine motor skills, visual perception, hand-eye coordination, handwriting, sequencing, cognition, and sensory processing, and achieving regulation to help their clients complete occupations more successfully.
Occupational Therapy sessions are offered for children enrolled in Shine’s ABA program or on the ABA waitlist.
Physical Therapy (PT): Only Offered for Current ABA Clients
Physical Therapists work with children and their families to promote active participation in home, school, and community environments. Physical Therapy may focus on the development of gross motor skills, facilitating movement, and/or improving body function (strength, endurance, balance, coordination, tone, mobility). Physical Therapists also specialize in assistive technology, orthotics / prosthetics, and pain management.
Physical Therapy sessions are offered for children enrolled in Shine’s ABA program or on the ABA waitlist.
Speech Therapy (ST): Only Offered for Current ABA Clients
Speech Therapists work with children and their families to facilitate effective communication in home, school, and community environments. Speech Therapy may focus on speech production, language skills, social communication, fluency, use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), and feeding and/or swallowing disorders.
Our team has extensive training and expertise with hearing loss, cochlear implants, speech generating devices (LAMP Words for Life, Proloquo2Go, and TobiiDynavox), and Gestalt Language Processing (GLP).
Speech Therapy sessions are offered for children enrolled in Shine’s ABA program or on the ABA waitlist.
